While I enjoy reading fashion magazines, their pages are filled with models that are not representative of my body type, wearing clothes that I cannot afford, crafted into ensembles by stylists who, although creative, leave me questioning their perspective of reality when it comes to how women dress in their daily lives.
To counter these issues, I've been faithfully visiting The Working Closet group on Flickr for quite some time now. I love admiring the outfits that other real women have put together. Of course, there are some misses strewn about the hits in this group, but that makes it even more fun. It's like people-watching at the mall. And the contributors label their pics with a brief description of their outfit and/or breakdown of where their pieces are from. Plus, it's fun to read the comments that a woman's fashion choices elicit, and I'm fond of leaving comments of my own if I feel compelled to tell someone that I think they're tres chic.
Here are some of my favorite regular contributors to the group (I've linked to their Working Closet sets):
Kristin aka Camels & Chocolate. She's a travel writer/celebrity reporter who lives in San Francisco. Her wardrobe is funky and fun. Hollylynne. I like her because her clothing preferences are quite similar to mine: lots of gray, or neutrals with a pop of color.
DsSliceofLife. She has the most impressive collection of colorful, affordable shoes and purses. (Look at those adorable green shoes from Payless!) She wears her polished look well.
I love clothes. Although you wouldn't know it because the majority of the time, when I'm home with Rhys, neither of us get out of our lounging/play clothes unless we have somewhere to go. And I wear scrubs to work. So I just contributed my first pic to The Working Closet last week. You can see it here. And if I ever get my lazy ass dressed again, I'll be sure to post about it.

I seriously thought that 3rd picture was the Super Nanny lady.
I'm jealous that you look all cute and trendy, while ready to pop. I just looked like a swollen whale.
Ok, so now you gave me one more reason to be on the internet instead of going to bed at night!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your outfit. While at the same time hating you immensely that you are that cute while on the verge of popping a baby out! I didn't realize you were so close to the end!!!!
I wish you lived closer and we could shop together!
I can't wait to actually go on this site and look at the things you are talking about. I never knew Flikr could be so fun and inspiring!
As always, you look darling! I love the combination of items that you put together! Seriously, you always look good!
Also, I too, love the outfits of the girls you added to your post! What cute styles they have! Such a great idea and group! Love it!
such a cute pic you posted and they LOVE you on that site. it had to feel good to hear all of those positive comments!
Oh now this is fun. Love it. Makes me happy to see those cute Payless shoes. I always love them in the ads but have wondered if they are, in fact, appropriate to purchase. This is the confirmation I needed.
Unrelated question. You said you swear by Anew. What eye cream do you use, if any. I'm officially out of my Dior stuff and can NOT get wrinkles!!
P.S. Thank you for reading my longass post about Detroit.
Thank you, I knew I'd become an addict. My fav is amandareneecallier
I think everyone should contribute to The Working Closet once in awhile. I would love to see what you all are wearing! Let me know if you do.
@sassy: That is so funny! When I was selecting a pic to post of her, I thought "okay, which one is a cute outfit in which she looks the least like Supernanny?"
@Quiet Oasis: I am SO addicted to this group. I actually feel disappointed when there's only been one update since the last time I checked, so I go through the group again to get my fix. I LOVE Amandareneecollier, too, but I wasn't able to link directly to her Working Closet set. I think she keeps her profile private. But she is absolutely one of my faves. So cute! We should go shopping sometime. I'm pretty sure you're less than two hours away from me.
@Jill (hopeful): Thanks! I knew you would love this site, too.
@Trophy life: Thank you very much. It was refreshing to read nice comments about my appearance when I've been feeling rather large and in charge.
@Nadja: 1)I am not above shopping at Payless, especially during BOGO (which is going on as we speak). 2)I have used the Anew Line and Wrinkle Corrector and the Alternative line. I liked them both. I am interested in trying the Ultimate line next. I like the Anew Clinical Eye Lift at night. (The dual one with gel for the brow bone and cream for the undereye.) I don't like it for day wear, though, because my makeup doesn't go on very well over it. 3)I truly enjoy long, passionate blog posts. I've been known to write a post greater than one paragraph, myself, once in awhile. A-hem. And you people STILL COME BACK!
FUN!
This is fabulous!
Super cute pic of you. If it were me, it would have taken me 45 minutes to decide on which outfit I was going to choose. I mean, it is going ON THE INTERNET! The whole world is gonna see it. Good choice.
What a fun site!! I am SO boring with my clothes. I have great ideas, but I just am afraid to try them out so I go with the same boring clothes everyday. I love the ideas from this site, I will totally be checking them out!
And yes, what a very cute pic of you! Love the outfit!
WHAT A FUN WEBSITE. Thanks for sharing. And you look adorable. Thank you for not wearing maternity tents.
(I cannot believe your little baby-counter-downer-thingy says 4 weeks and 6 days. Holy crap.)
Aww--you are so darn cute pregnant!! But with 4 weeks to go, I am sure you are "over it" and cannot wait to meet the bebe!
This was a cool site--thanks! If I can ever afford to buy new clothes again, I've gotten some great ideas!
